Trashbaggery 1st B’day – THANK YOU!!!

Trashbaggery would like to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone that made the First Birthday Bash possible, without the support from the performers, the venue, our sponsors and the readership we would not have been able to celebrate turning 1 years old!!!!

A special thank goes out to the Red Rattler, the work they do to support up and coming artists and organisations like ourselves makes such a difference. They graciously gave us their amazing venue for the night to put on a show for all you guys and thank you to everyone that made their way down to Marrickville that night!

Red Rattler
The Red Rattler Theatre Inc is a community-based venue and artists’ studios. The Theatre operates on a not-for-profit basis, and is an artist-run initiative (ARI). It is a creative playground for performers, musicians, artists, designers, multi-media makers, experimentalists, film-makers, theorists, activists, collective organisers, and local punters. The space has been fitted with a full PA, stage, LED lighting rig, projector and screen, licensed bar, three non-residential artist studios, and a rooftop garden.

If you are interested in finding out more about the space or up and coming events check out there website on www.redrattler.org

The Red Rattler is also turning 3 years old!  So if you appreciate the work that they do, please get down and support them on for their 3rd Birthday Bash Fundraiser on Friday 27th April 2012, 8pm – late

Thus far – the Rat has been run by an amazing crew of volunteers, passionate about keeping a DIY space open for new arts, music, performance and film culture that find it hard to find a home anywhere else in Sydney.

Lauren La Rouge, Presenter and MC
did a phenomenal job at keeping the show rolling, introducing our wonderful performers and keeping the crowd lubed up for the night! She has such wit and sarcasm that flows off her tongue so effortlessly, just make sure your not in the firing line!

Lauren has established herself as one of Australia’s most sassy & silly Burlesque performers and presenters. She has been described as a drag queen trapped in a woman’s body… burlesque performer, ukulele songstress, hopeless romantic and professional spinster.

To see more of Lauren she will be performing at Sin City, Q Bar, Oxford Street, Sydney on Friday 13th April 2012 or check out her facebook page – www.facebook.com/lauren.larouge

Ray Cashman , Comedian –
Ray had one of the hardest jobs on the night to open the show to what was probably the soberest crowd I have seen on St Patrick Day but he did a grand job. Ray is a regular on the Sydney Comedy circuit for the last 4 years, Ray has supported some on the biggest names in Australian Comedy.

Bella Bee Sweet
– Took it away with a belting, big number kicking off the night with “All that Jazz”, looking absolutely delightful in her shimmering Top Hat and Tails.

Bella has been described as a little lady with a whole lot of attitude! She sings, she dances, she fire twirls and frolics with feather fans. Bella is also a singer, classically trained as a Soprano 1 by Sydney Opera’s Lisa Cooper and Musical Theatre legend Deborah Wells and a corsetiere.

To find out more about the delightful Bella check out her website www.bellabeesweet.com or to see her in person head down to El Raval on Thursday 12th April, http://elraval.eventbrite.com/?ebtv=C

Queen Xylene Nocturne
– The lights go on, the music begins. A heel stomps onto the solid stage, a hip thrusts towards the crowd. Hearts melt, eyes widen and lust begins with the one and only, Queen Xylene Nocturne. Well I couldn’t put it better myself.

Queen Xylene Nocturne is notorious for her curves, comical on stage presence, outlandish reveals and roaring sensuality.

Revealing a sexy raven fox routine she showed us why she is the Queen – ooooowwwww!

To meet the vixen herself check out – www.facebook.com/queenxylenenocturne

Dangerboy –
Juxtaposing beauty with the grotesque, Dangerboy’s avant-garde performances pay homage to late nineteenth-century Bohemian cabaret and depression-era circus sideshow.

Dangerboy delighted us with his edible razorblade routine and swallowing a 60-inch modelling balloon.

For more info or to book Dangerboy and his lovely Assistant Ivy visit: ww.facebook.com/pages/Dangerboy/56287834814

Martyn Badoui –
a wonderful surprise entry to our night was Martyn who blew us all away with his amazing vocals, looking fabulous on the night and nearly upstaging all of our burlesque ladies. Martyn sang two of his beautiful numbers from Studio release EP “Borderline Crazy”.

Singer and Songwriter Martyn Badoui’s career has taken shape in a range of solo and collaborative concerts, in film, on radio and in recordings. He has performed on stage with award winning recording artists Emma Dean and Max Sharam, in fundraisers and fashion parades.

His first Studio release EP, “Borderline Crazy”, is a collection of dramatic love songs arranged for string quartet, drums and bass. It received critical praise when it was released in 2010.

We know that we have not seen the last of this musician and master in the making, we can’t wait to find out more about projects that Martyn is involved in so watch this space!

Maggie Kelley and Lauren Howes – duo Lyra performance -
Maggie Kelley from Wild Spirit Productions provided an enchanting hoop aerial show, from the centre of the room. The hoop emerged and cast a magical spell over the audience and Maggie and Lauren Howes performed a spectacular duo lyra routine.

Wild Spirit Productions owned by Maggie Kelley is an exciting and innovative aerial arts production company. It can provide aerial choreography, aerialists, dancers, artistic development, stage direction and artistic direction.

Jeremy Juggler
– has travelled the world entertaining people with his juggling skills and we were so lucky to get him to perform for us! A great character who performed an 8 ring juggling trick and even managed to get them all around his head so the Stage Kittens didn’t have to clean up after him! Such a clever boy!

For more info on Jeremy or to book him for your future gigs check out www.jeremyansley.com

Kelly Ann Doll –
one of our headline acts on the night! Sexy, sassy and stunning aren’t we glad that she is now Sydney based!!! Meandering through the crowd and leaving some more hot under the collar then others, Kelly gave a raunchy routine, like a butterfly that sweeps through the room leaving angel dust and stockings wherever she passes! She is one hot little pocket rocket.

With career highlights including 1st runner up at Miss Burlesque Australia, headlining The Australian Burlesque Festival, Sydney Fringe, Comedy Festival, Big Day Out Festival, Crown Casino not to mention boasting an endless list of premier events, functions and festivals all over Australia and also fast becoming a solo hit all over the Asia pacific!

Pepper Grinde –
stole the show with her cheeky ballon act! Looking so demeanour when she first arrived, Pepper got the crowd going with her ballon popping and hip thrusting, a definite crowd pleaser.

Pepper first performed solo at The Peel, August 2011, then again in October 2011, and for the Christmas edition, November 2011.
Pepper have danced at Miss Ink Australia Finals 2011 and at the NSW heats, February 2012, Gallery Burlesque, February 2012, Launch of the Annual Pinup Kittens Magazine 10 March and for the opening of Hot Box Burlesque, March 29th.

Lady Nostalgic –

New and bursting on to the scene is Lady Nostalgic, she did her first ever “virgin” burlesque performance at The Peel, run by Lauren La Rouge, in August 2011, where we also found her at The Peel’s 2nd Birthday Bash. To see this beautiful scarlet she will next be performing at Gallery Burlesque on 22nd April and Venom, Miss Alternative Finals 21st April.

Lara Love – our jungle bath bathing beauty, rounded up the acts – unfortunately we had a minor sound issue (blank CD!)  but Lara was a true professional carrying on with the show and performing to what sounded like Tropicana music , the only music  the sound engineer could quickly get their hands on when I think the routine was practised for 1950’s. However, adding more character to the act, Lara did an awesome job and gave us one of the sexiest acts of the night!

Lara Love is the director of ‘Diamonettes Burlesque’ specialising in burlesque stage shows and workshops for events and parties. The ‘Diamonettes’ have sparkled and booty-shaked their way through numerous performances in venues all over Sydney.

Video 8 – finishing off the night on a high, Video 8 rocked us out for the last hour!  The band made up of Maxine Kauter, Paul Fraser, Shannon Haritos and Lauren Allison played us through a great set. Describing themselves as Electro / pop / rock outfit sounding somewhere between ‘Goldfrapp’ meets the ‘Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs’ with a touch of ‘Pink Floyd’ & ‘Blondie’ on the side.
