Miss Burlesque hits Sydney..
Marrickville’s Factory Theatre was packed full to its rim on Saturday night (28th of May) with a vocal crowd, who were there to cheer on ten talented ladies all vying for the title of Miss Burlesque NSW 2011.
Jac Bowie did an excellent job of hosting the event and she even coaxed the crowd into meowing in between performances.
The event started off with the category of Traditional which required the competitors to focus on the Golden Age of Burlesque from 1920-1960 and fit their costume, music and styling around that period. This was followed by the category Neo which required the competitors to focus on performing a narrative or parody of some sort with the costume and music reflecting the era of their choice from the 1960’s to present day.
From there the top 5 was chosen and the competitors all took to the stage once again to perform in the last category which was titled Unique, as the name suggests the category was free choice. What followed were passionate and exciting performances from each of the contestants, but there could only be one winner.
Last year’s Miss Burlesque NSW winner, Briana Bluebell took to the stage with a burlesque number of her own but not without a touch of unwanted drama! Briana accidently popped a pasty during her routine but professionally laughed it off on her return to the stage for the announcement of the winner.
Briana Bluebell announced Lucille Spielfuchs as the Runner up of Miss Burlesque NSW 2011, giving her the chance to run for wild card entry into the Grand Final. Danica Lee was crowned the winner of Miss Burlesque NSW in what was a much deserving victory.
Speaking to Trash Baggery shortly after her win, Danica said that she has been a Burlesque Performer for four years. What started off as a hobby developed into something bigger allowing her to quit her full time job and pursue Burlesque on a professional level.
When asked about her sexy red and flesh colored costume she was wearing on stage that night and also after the show, Danica revealed that she had actually made the dress herself, which is quite impressive.
On behalf of Trash Baggery we would like to congratulate Danica Lee on her win and we wish her all the best in the final of Miss Burlesque Australia 2011.
